Why Fujifilm Technology is my Preferred Choice

A Revolution in Photography:

The development and refinement of digital photographic technology has been one of the greatest revolutions of our time. Gone are the days of having to take 20 canisters of film on a photoshoot. Gone is the fumbling to change film – sometimes missing a photo opportunity in the process. Gone is the copious amount of bracketing of shots and the guessing game of what will show up after developing the film. Instant feedback to see the shot you took allows on-the-spot refinement when there is still plenty of opportunity to ‘get it right’. You also become better faster because of this instant feedback capability. No worries about wasting film anymore. Just delete the duds. You can really go for it, focusing more on the creative process of the photography and not being snagged with unnecessary technical pauses at the wrong time.

And then there is the added crispness and clarity of the digital-to-print process. When there is no film in between, there is no genenerational loss in quality. With Fujifilm digital technology I can achieve the same or better high quality effects that I achieved with transparencies – and I can get more shots out of a job. This is exactly why the quality of newspapers and magazines is better than ever before – yet their cost to produce is cheaper. Digital photos are easy to email: No more postage of a print and time to wait. Storage is also easier. What once took the space of a room packed with file boxes of prints, now takes only a small rack or album of DVDs.

You can make a DVD of your birthday or wedding and send copies around the world to all your friends and relatives at a fraction of the cost it used to be to print the same set. Let your friends and relatives print whatever they like. There are even photo websites now where you can upload your digital photos for free so that people anywhere in the world, with the password you give them, can access to view and choose the ones they would like to print. The changes in the way we do things have been monumental just in the last ten years.

My Journey:

Since 1974 from the age of 22 I had been using only Canon SLR’s and lenses. I also discovered early on that Fujifilm was my preferred choice of film. It gave brighter pictures and the Fuji photo paper seemed to hold the colours better over time.

When it came time to dip my toe into the proverbial ‘digital’ pool my research showed that Canon was not necessarily the best option. FUJI, who were not known for building cameras, had gained a technological advantage over Canon and Nikkon by developing an advanced octagonal CCD. This is the heart and most critical component of digital cameras.

Today I have moved up to my third professional Fuji Camera - the Fujifilm S3 Pro - and the results are absolutely stunning, with very little if any adjustment required in Photoshop to achieve the desired image outcome.

The website listed below explains simply why Fujifilm has the edge in digital image technology, and to date patents pending prevent the other big names from accessing this technology. Fujifilm have however adapted their cameras to fit all Nikkon lenses as a standard, giving me the best of both worlds.

Of course, for the average camera user the automatic facility pretty well covers the majority of situations to give photographic success. However, for commercial and artistic photography you sometimes need to break old rules to achieve new effects. Because this method of photography is still relatively new there are not many sources or references available yet to help refine skills, techniques and effects. I am lucky though. With my previous scientific background I am able to experiment and use analytical skills to further enhance professional digital photography. I have recently developed a new portable light box which delivers beautiful studio quality and is ideal for jewellery and small products. I am so enjoying the creative challenge that inspires many pioneers in a new frontier.
